It started off fishing in the Kelong which I got the hooked on the hobby fishing in Dec 2016. When experience angler started to tell stories of success getting or landing a big fish. It sounded interesting and making you wanted to try to land a huge fish on a rod. It is a great feeling and unforgettable experience that most of the angler will never forget.
After the Kelong trip on the Dec 2016. I told myself to try the fresh water fishing which can be done easily near to my home and it is a 5 Km riding by bicycle, plus I'm a person who is lazy to wear fishing gear.

Sea fishing need to travel far distance to West coast, East Coast or Woodland area. Timing of tide is needed to follow in order to get higher chance to land the fish. Falling back to fresh water will be easier.
I had start off doing some research in the Internet on freshwater luring. Mostly from US's you tube site and mostly caught Big Mouth Bass. they are using worm lure and rubber lure. Hard to get an idea to apply the trick, how to go about to make the trip a successful.
My first month attempt is a the fishing Deck tried for 2-3 hour using rubber worm lure from Daiso. It was a zero hit or a total failure. Not a single fish will bite the rubber worm lure. Within a month trying. only a once I saw fishing chasing the rubber worm lure for a very short while.
It was quite a disappointing trips and wanted to give up. Ending up asking myself where is the fishes? This force me to go out of the fishing Deck and do a research on where the fishes are. Then, I stopped at the area near to the MRT track where I can see small fishes moving around the water plant.
It was my first time using Baiting casting reel with rod. On the third day of purchased, i broke the rod with a huge fish or a big Turtle. whom drag is so strong on the second pull and my rod broke. Due to inexperience of handling big fish or something is big. You can't just use your strength to pull him up... it is about using the rod strength and the reel's drag to tire the fish over time.
I had tried other Lure from Zerek. claim snakehead fish like it, buy and try. It has a one bearing in the body when you retrieve it after casting it will create a sound each time you jig the lure.
Lure from Zoom Bait Company. It is called Horny Toad. some old base on the rubber lure and it give a kicking water action with two back leg... Green colors will increase the chance to let the snake head fish strike on it.

The water plants are heavy covered, I could see small fishes swimming in a huge group and small snake head breaking the water surface.
Using the telescope rod and spinning reel, lure is the rubber worm lure. Trying my rubber worm lure, I have found the snake head fish have no interested in the worm like lure. problem face was the water plant is too dense and hard to get worm like lure to attract snakehead fish. Most of the time hooked the water plant and need to clear the water plant on the hook. Again, next problem faced. question is need to find a lure can attract the snakehead fishes.
I had re-doing the research again on type of lure for type of fish and also how to fish in a dense water plant area. but most of the information is still from US's youtube. Therefore, I bought a box of curl tail plastic lure with 4 colors.
Using the Telescope rod with Spinning reel with the plastic Transparent white curl tail lure. I got my first snakehead fish. As shown below.
My Second Fish was a Peacock Bass. As shown below.
Now, the passion for hunting snake head had drill into my brain. I had faced another problem on casting using spinning reel is very tired, open the bail and hold the line and cast out and close the bail and reel... The question was arises, who to make a cast smooth and able to continue non-stop without a problem.... this is a fishing hunting needs...
I have notice the casting distance and handling the Spinning reel is a bit of difficult as more action is needed in the process. Luring is a bit tried using spinning reel is ok, but no what I wanted to be smooth casting and can immediate retrieve the the line. Decided to get a Telescope rod and bait casting reel show below: (Ezbuy)

Well, need to replace new rod. At the same time tried on new lure, small fish like style.
With this new lure and rod, I had managed to caught the following fishes shown below: (about a 1Kg plus common Snakehead). This fish give you a feel of 1 minute fight on the rod... a start for hunting for a bigger one.

Other brand of Toad from China Cheaper but it work.
Conclusion, color, shape and action will attract the fish to bite, plus the weather condition and the water condition is good. The bite sometime with aggressive action might happen, even the fish size is small the drag is seem like a big fish.
In the internet, solar timing was found in some of the web site, after many test with solar timing it seem to be 50% 50% chance to be truth. because of the weather and water condition is also the factor which is hard to predict.
It is hard to wait for a good timing, good weather and good temperature that the big fish will come out to hunting in the Pang Sua Canal. below is my first catch of the Big Toman in Pang Sua Canal, happen that day, its hunting for small fish but missing the small fish with a big splashed that triggered me to cast toward the splashed area. within a 2- 3 minutes of casting to locate the fish. finally, cast in front of the fish. Its hit with a strong splashed and dragged the line for a 1 minutes and stopped for a while and continued toward the water plant area to hide. Due to the hook went from the inside of the mouth and out to one of its eye, this is no way its can escape by moving into the water plants.
I had handle his dragged for 2-3 minutes and the fish is tired and it will follow toward your pulling direction. when it is in front of you, it will make a dash again as the fish is scare!...
Second big catch
It is the same cool mid-afternoon, after last night heavy rain. water is milky and just want to try my new lure as shown below picture.

From the above is a good experience in hunting the Toman big fish. It is not a easy task to hook them.
Ways to get them:
1) First light and the last light
2) get them angry by hitting your lure as near as possible to their head
3) lure Scent!
4) big Lure that make noise!
(There is no right or wrong method, it is only a guide. it is best to look for location where toman like the best and they will be there for you to hunt.)
So far the above method, I had caught mostly small Toman or Common Snakehead.
I can only said after a long or a heavy rain, it is good to take a look at the fishing spot hoping that big Toman will appeared in front of you. You will never know where they are when they come. If a place is hardly accesse by the angler to visit. Big Toman might waiting for you to hunt them, but need some patience to cast your lure near them when the break the water surface. Sometime luck do play a part.
Lastly, if your lure is target Toman and Peacock bass might no easy to land. Only the big peacock bass will strike the topwater Lure. Small one will give a bite and it will not get hook!
